Due to the generosity of many, the District 279 Foundation was able to award a grant to Weaver in the amount of $2,242 for a fifth grade project: Putting STEM into Action – JA BizTown Stem Careers. Every Fifth Grade Weaver Student will participate in a full-day STEM Career Experience at JA BizTown. JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a fully-interactive, simulated town. The day at BizTown focuses on stem skills including the scientific process, team work, critical thinking, math, and problem solving by allowing our students to apply STEM concepts in real world scenarios. The program helps students make the connection between what they learn in school and the real world. Students learn the basics of starting their own business and utilize the Engineering Design Process as they create and run their own STEM business.
