About Us General

13947392164388297Lace up your sneakers and team up with the District 279 Foundation and Kidstop for the Reading is Fun 5K Run/Walk.  While everyone loves supporting a good cause, many families appreciate the health and social benefits of a run/walk as well.  Funds raised will be donated to every media center in every school building to purchase learning resources.  The media center is the place where all students have access to all learning resources.  The 5K will take place on Saturday August 16 at Elm Creek Park Reserve.  Take advantage of the early bird pricing and register today by clicking on this link.

Woodland Eagle Trail, (WET) Lab, is an environmental area on the Woodland Elementary School property that serves as an outdoor education classroom and nature observatory for the students and community.  Developed through partnerships with community and business supporters and the Woodland PTA, the WET Lab has seen significant enhancements over the past year.

Woodland families, General Mills, and Hands On Twin Cities volunteers worked this past spring and summer to clear overgrown brush, mulch the trails, paint murals and add benches and a teaching platform to increase the student-teacher usefulness of the area. Directional signs teach geography and math as they show relativity to the North Pole, New York, and even to Cub Foods!

Grants from Proctor and Gamble and funds from the Woodland PTA have helped cover the material costs of the improvements and maintenance expenses.

The changes have had a noticeable effect, as many have seen already this fall.  Teacher utilization has increased, allowing more students to realize that education is not confined to the classroom walls.  Teachers use the area to facilitate classroom lectures on science and nature, perform classroom projects, and collect samples for in class study.

If you have wondered where the WET Lab is, take a look to the left as you drive in towards the main entrance to the school. The new WET Lab entry way will lead you into a beautiful outdoor classroom.
