Educational Support

When did you begin working at Park Center?

Jan 2011

Where did you go to school and what is your previous job experience?

Augsburg College- B.A. in Business Administration (marketing emphasis). My previous experience include being a Youth Counselor Advocate, Teaching Assistant, Substitute Teacher and Wrestling Coach. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Educational Leadership at Concordia-St. Paul.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believe are conducive to establishing such an environment, (1) the teacher acting as a guide, (2) allowing the child's natural curiosity to direct his/her learning, and (3) promoting respect for all things and all people.

Why did you choose your profession?

My profession chose me to an extent… teaching, coaching and counseling make up the person that I am; these things come natural to me. My love and passion for working with youth/people in general motivate me in being the best human being that I can be.

What is your favorite quote?

“The ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in times of comfort and convenience; it’s where they stand during the times of challenge and controversy.” – Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

In what room(s) can you commonly be found?

I’m everywhere throughout the school! (smile)

Additional Comments(hobbies)?

I’m am also a professional MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) competitor, hip hop artist and have my own graphic design business (Imhotep Graphic Design).

Advice for students going to college?

Make sure you pursue a field that you are truly passionate about, not just for money or because many others are pursuing it. As the saying goes, “If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.”

Biggest pet peeve?

One of my biggest pet peeves is getting lost(driving, walkin..etc..)

Sum up your career at Park Center in one word?

If you were required to find a different job than what you are currently doing, what would you choose?

It would be something along the lines of youth counseling or coaching.
