The MYP was introduced at Park Center in 2004-2005 and we were fully authorized as an IB MYP school in 2007. All grades 9 and 10 students are part of the MYP.
The Middle Years Programme teaches tools for lifelong learning and fosters responsible attitudes that help students discover how to use what they learn to take principled action. The MYP is excellent preparation for further learning as it encourages students to be critical, creative, and reflective thinkers. In their courses, students develop conceptual understandings of the content they study, allowing them to see the big ideas and connections between subjects. As a part of the MYP, Park Center students are expected to take an additional language (French or Spanish) during grades 9 and 10. Moreover, all grade 10 students are required to complete a Personal Project. The Personal Project is a significant body of work produced over several months that ties together the skills developed in the sixth through tenth grades. For this project students – based on their unique passions, talents, and skills – will create a product (for example, a new song, a creative writing piece, a portfolio of photography, a personalized training program for a sport, a campaign to promote a community service organization, etc.) and write a report describing how they went about creating the product and reflecting on the skills they learned.Learn more about Park Center’s Middle Years Programme Curriculum.
Many students go on to take IB Diploma Programme (DP) courses in grades 11 and 12 since it is a natural progression to go from MYP to DP at Park Center. Additionally, these rigorous DP courses are excellent preparation for college.
If you are from outside our attendance area, you may apply to attend Park Center through the NorthWest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD). Transportation is provided to any student living in one of the cooperating districts, including Anoka-Hennepin, Brooklyn Center, Fridley, Elk River, Rockford, Mounds View and Buffalo.
