During this time of distance learning we are each finding unique and innovative ways to stay connected with families across Osseo Area Schools. One of the strategies we are using to provide resources and useful information for families in their preferred languages is through newly created multilingual and multicultural Facebook pages: The public Indian Education, Español, Hmong, Soomaali, VietNam and West African Facebook pages that are being supported through the Department of Educational Equity.
One of the benefits of using Facebook as a platform to share important information about distance learning with families is that it offers multiple modalities of communicating, not only through text but also through videos, pictures and audio. The ability to demonstrate through videos or make connections through audio recordings has been highlighted throughout these last weeks of distance learning and is being capitalized on through this new social media presence. Our Bilingual Assistants and many other staff members have been working incredibly hard to create these pages and their content so that multilingual and multicultural families are able to find valuable information about how to set up and use the technology and resources relevant to distance learning, event dates, conferences, policies, and much more.
