Grades 7-12 

District 279 provides opportunities for each student to demonstrate the ten strands of language arts as listed in the District 279 Language Arts Program Rationale. Students in District 279 are expected to do the following:

  • articulate and utilize a range of thinking skills
  • read for a variety of purposes
  • read a diverse range of fiction and nonfiction
  • write for a variety of purposes
  • apply oral communication skills
  • demonstrate active listening skills
  • demonstrate a working knowledge of English grammar and language variations
  • employ research skills
  • evaluate media
  •  use current technology effectively
