MAAP is the Minnesota Association of Alternative Programs.  STARS is Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Recognition, Self-Esteem.

MAAP STARS is a broad-based vocational organization for students in secondary alternative programs in the United States. The purpose of MAAP Stars is to help students:

  • Develop employment, academic and social skills.

  • Experience career related activities that in turn assist them in making an informed career choice.

  • Build a cooperative and competitive spirit through individual and team activities and competition.

  • Strengthen social skills and build an appreciation for the responsibilities of citizenship, brotherhood, and the American free enterprise system.

  • Develop self-confidence; increase motivation, and create a desire for and belief in life-long learning.

  • To meet with, have fun with, and ultimately develop an appreciation for students and staff from other alternative program.

The Minnesota chapter of STARS holds three statewide events each year: The Fall Leadership Conference, Legislative Day and the  Spring Events Conference. Many of our MAAP regions and individual programs hold other STARS activities throughout the year.  Click here for more information on MAAP STARS events.

Students go to Feed my Starving Children

Students from the Osseo Area Learning Center take annual field trips to Feed My Starving Children. Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization that provides meals to starving children all around the world. A single meal costs only 24 cents to produce, and 94 percent of total donations goes directly toward the food program. Last year OALC students and other volunteers packaged 126 boxes of food, which means 27,216 kids will have a single meal or 75 kids will eat a meal daily for a year!
