Assessment at North View
There are a number of changes to how students are assessed at North View. These changes are designed to be in line with the direction that Osseo Area Schools have moved with assessment changes as well.
Students at North View are assessed under what is refered to as standards based grading. The grade book is broken into two categories, summative and formative. Summative work is work that a student submits that is typically at the end of a unit of study or some other predetermined time frame. Formative work is student work that is submitted that is used to indicate to the student and the teacher how the student is learning and what steps they may need to take next to ensure that students are progressing towards the standards that are being taught in that unit. These two categories are weighted, meaning one category influences the students grade more that the other. Summative work is to account for a minimum of 80% of the students grade. Aspects of student behavior such as attendance, effort, participation and behavior are not to be included in the students grade. The grade at the end of the trimester will reflect the students achievement level of the standards taught during that trimester.
