Attention 8th Grade Parents PDF Print E-mail

College Readiness Program Available at North Hennepin Community College

8th grade students who are either 1) first-generation college students (neither parent has a college degree)  or 2) low-income have a wonderful opportunity to participate in the Trio Upward Bound Program (a 4 year college readiness program). If families are interested applications are due the end of May. There are a limited number of spots and the application process it competitive. If interested in having your child apply contact Shanna Schroeder, School Counselor at 763-585-7214.
Details: The TRIO Upward Bound  Program at NHCC assists low-income, first-generation (neither parent has a college degree) high school students at Robbinsdale Cooper, Brooklyn Center and Park Center High Schools. During the academic year (grades 9-12), participants receive tutoring, academic advising, campus visits, and assistance with test preparation. During the six-week Summer Academy (starting the summer of 8th grade), participants receive instruction in core areas such as mathematics, science,  English, and other elective classes on campus at NHCC to simulate the college experience. With the renewal of the grant, these services can continue to be provided and continue to help our youth achieve their goals of higher education.
