The Counseling staff welcomes new and returning students and their families to Maple Grove Senior High. The Counselors are trained help students in four broad areas: 1. Personal - chemical use, eating issues, stress, depression, etc. 2. Social - family concerns, friendships or other social issues, etc. 3. Academic - study skills, tutors, scheduling, transcripts, etc. 4. Career/College - future planning, test preparation, applications for schools, etc. Students and/or parents may schedule appointments with their counselor by contacting Sue Ihli, the department secretary. Students are assigned counselors based on their last names (see below). We make every effort to return phone calls within 48 hours and accommodate requests for appointments in less than one week. During very busy times, such as the beginning of the school year and during the registration process for the next school year, it may take longer for a response.

The Career Resource Center (CRC) is a great resource for students and parents at MGSH. It is located inside the Media Center (adjacent to the front lobby/entrance). The CRC provides assistance to students as they begin their post high school planning. Areas in which the CRC can help include careers and career exploration, colleges (transcripts, college reps, panels), financial aid and scholarships, testing (ACCUPLACER, ACT/SAT, PSAT, AP), military and employment and internship services. The CRC produces monthly newsletters that you don’t want to miss! This newsletter has information on college and military reps coming to our school, volunteer and work opportunities, ACT and NCAA information and a thoughtful article on a relevant topic. If you would like to receive this newsletter by email please contact Ms. Laurie Roiger at firstname.lastname@example.org. The CRC is also on Twitter, and we would love for you to follow us at @MGSHCRC. In addition, the CRC hosts college representatives/presentations throughout the year. Please visit our webpage at https://sites.google.com/apps.district279.org/mgshcrc/home to learn more about upcoming dates and presentations.

Mental Health Therapy Services Available
People Incorporated would like to make sure all families are aware of the mental health services available at Maple Grove Senior High! Utilizing School-Based Mental Health Services is a convenient way to make sure your student receives the therapy they need while minimizing the time they are out of the classroom. Meghan Cain-Moss, LICSW is starting her 4th year as the People Incorporated therapist at MGSH. She sees students for a variety of reasons ranging from excessive worry, depressed mood, anger, low self-esteem, school performance, or stress from a major event. School based therapy services are the same services as you would receive at an outpatient clinic, but these sessions are in the school building, during the school day. If you and your student are interested in these services, please contact your student’s guidance counselor or reach out to Meghan directly to answer questions and discuss the intake process. Meghan and the guidance counselors will be able to answer questions about the program and can let you know if Meghan is taking new clients.
