The MGSH Counseling department offers several groups during the school year. Please contact the Counseling Department 763-391-8705 for more information or to refer a student to a group.
The GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender) group provides a safe and supportive environment for students who are exploring their sexual identities. Students discuss issues concerning sexual orientation, ask questions, and support each other. This is a year long group. Students interested in joining need to make an appointment to see Mrs. Speake in the Counseling Office.
New Student Group
This group is designed for students who are new to the Maple Grove area. We will talk about the school, community, and area. Activities will be designed to learn more about your new environment and people here. The groups will be a safe place to ask questions and talk about the challenges and feelings associated with being a new student. This is a yearlong group that will meet once or twice a month.
This group is a source of support for students who have experienced a loss. We will look at death and dying with students who have lost or are losing a parent, family member, or friend. The Group will be a safe place to express themselves and ask questions. This is a yearlong group that will meet once a month.
Study Skills Group
This group is an academic success group that focuses on study skills. Some of the topics addressed in this group also include: goal setting, time management, organizational skills and barriers to learning. Each group will meet for eight weeks.
Stress Management Group
Students that are having a difficult time managing school, work, family, and other factors in their lives are encouraged to join this group. We will look at ways to manage their time by getting them organized. This group is one trimester long and will meet twice a month. A new group will be organized each trimester.
