This message is for all parents/guardians at Maple Grove Middle School regarding our Learning Conference Night that took place on September 7th, 2017.

Our first learning conference was held on  Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 3:30-6:30 PM.  Based on recommendations made from our Parent Advisory Council, we used a new format for our first conference.

We have a team of teachers working to improve the Learning Conference Night experience. We want to gather feedback from all stakeholders in an effort to make it a positive experience.  Because of the change in format from years past, we are looking for some feedback to help inform our Learning Conference Night for the future. Please take a few moments to complete this brief survey. Your feedback is valuable to us.  Even if you weren’t able to attend Learning Conference Night, please complete the survey as we would like to collect feedback as to why you were unable to attend. FALL CONFERENCES

Our first parent-teacher conferences of the year have traditionally been very well attended and in response to feedback regarding the long lines and wait times, we have two nights of conferences.  We are asking for your cooperation on two details to help ensure that lines move quicker and parents have the opportunity to conference with the teachers of their choice. 

Our first request is to attend the evening conference that corresponds to the alpha split for your family.  For students with last names A-K, we will be available on Tuesday, October 17, from 3:15-7:45.  For students with last names L-Z, we will be available on Thursday, October 26, from 3:15-7:15.  Both conference nights will be arena style conferences in Gyms A-E with Special Education staff available in the media center.  Of course, we will welcome families with scheduling conflicts on either evening if there are circumstances you cannot change.

The second request is to honor the 5 minute time limit with each teacher.   Our teachers will have their iPads with them and will set a time at the beginning of each conference.  If you need more time with a particular teacher, we can schedule a meeting for a later date during the school day.

Prior to conference night, please work with your child to review their progress in each class.  Current grades are available through our ParentVue portal.  If your child has a question about an assignment or grade, ask him/her to speak with the teacher.  If the concern is not resolved, let the teacher know by calling them or sending an e-mail so that your child can get help immediately.  We ask that you bring a copy of your child’s schedule with their teachers’ names and we will provide you with a map of where the teachers are located that evening. 

Finally, parking is always a challenge when we host an evening event.  Please note that the fire department parking lot is not public and vehicles will be towed.  You may use all of the parking lots at our building including the west bus lot.

Our learning conferences will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 3:30-6:30 PM.  We have a new format this year based on recommendations made by the Parent Involvement Advisory Group last year.  There is no formal program or set times for the learning conferences.    

Parents/guardians are welcome to move freely throughout the building at their own pace from 3:30-6:30 PM.  In our drop-in format, you will experience your student’s middle school schedule, meet teachers, and understand course content and expectations.  If you have any individual concerns about your student, please email your child’s advisory teacher or guidance counselor as the drop-in format will not provide for privacy.   

Please bring your child’s schedule with room numbers and teacher names so that we can better assist you in finding your child’s classes.  Student leaders will be available throughout the building in green WEB leader shirts to assist in finding classes.  This event is for parents/guardians only.

Parking is always a concern so we encourage you to carpool with neighbors and friends if at all possible.  Please do not park in the fire station lot as your car will be towed.  The bus parking lot on the West side of the school will be available as well. 

Our first traditional parent/teacher conferences will take place in October.  Parents/guardians of students whose last name begin with A-K are on October 17 and students L-Z are on October 26.
