2019 - 2020 Parent/Student/Teacher Conference Information

Trimester 1 - Goal Setting Conference

  • October 3 - Students with last name A-K 3:15-7:30pm
  • October 8 - Students with last name L-Z 3:30-7:30pm

Fall conferences are almost upon us!  In place of the traditional parent-teacher conferences, we are having student led conferences. Your child will lead two conferences this year (fall and spring) to reflect on his/her progress, show you his/her work, and receive feedback. You, your child, and your child’s teachers will participate in the conference.

We feel that student-led conferences are a very important way to engage students in understanding and taking ownership of their learning. We also believe this conference structure will help us to build better communication and stronger relationships with all families.

As parents and family members, you are critical partners in helping support your child’s learning and growth. Our new conference structure will be a very important way to show this support. This fall, our conferences are focused on goal setting. Students have been working in their advisory classes to set goals for themselves, and develop plans to achieve those goals. This conference is an opportunity for the student, teacher, and families to get to know one another so that a partnership can be formed to best support the student’s goals. Our winter conferences will focus on academic progress, and the spring conferences will be a showcase of student portfolios celebrating progress and growth.

On conference night, your child will pick up his/her goal setting packet in the gyms. They will bring this packet along with them as they visit each teacher so they can discuss and share their goals. Each conference with the teacher should last a maximum of 5 minutes. Please be mindful of the time as other families will be waiting to meet with the teachers as well. Location of the conferences are as follows:

Gym A: 6th grade teachers

Gym B: 7th grade teachers

Gym C: 8th grade teachers

Gym D: Exploratory teachers

Media Center: Special Education staff

Since this conference is so well attended, we are asking families if your student’s last name is A-K to please attend conferences on October 3 from 3:15-7:30, and if your student’s last name is L-Z to please attend on October 8 from 3:30-7:30.  If your assigned night is not possible, we welcome you on either evening.  Conferences are an “open house format” so you may come anytime during the times listed.  Parking is available at each of the lots at the ends of the building. Please do not park in the fire station.  We look forward to seeing you and your student!
