Garden City third and fourth graders have been busy preparing soil and planting crops for their community garden. Under the direction of media specialist Ann Salt, the learners have learned about environmental issues, soil ammendment and plant needs in preparation. During the next few weeks (if the sun and rain cooperate and the deer don't think it's a salad) greens should start appearing. Families are encouraged to tend to the garden over the summer. In the fall, crops will be available if students wish to harvest and take a small amount home. In the garden will be cabbage, peas, beans, tomatoes, peppers, squash, kale and onions. No pesticides will be used on the plants.
