Mrs. Ness rode along with Officer Tschida of the Maple Grove Police Department and visited 6 neighborhoods in the Elm Creek attendance area that had events scheduled for National Night out ths year on August 1st.

The planning for this began back in the spring when Mrs. Ness was connected with the Crime Prevention Officer for Maple Grove, who also organizes National Night Out for Maple Grove, and he arranged or her to ride along with Officer Tschida.

Before her ride along, Mrs. Ness and other school and government officials attending National Night Out Celebrations, were briefed in the Maple Grove Council Chambers on the focus of this year's National Night Out: Preventing distracted driving, and remembering to lock your vehicles and garages. They also learned that in 2016, Maple Grove placed 2nd in the Nation for their National Night Out campaign!

National Night Out is a great time to have fun and fight crime. Getting to know your neighbors is an important tool in reducing crime in Maple Grove. By paying attention to the people and things in your surroundings, you are more capable of picking out what doesn’t belong. Suspicious activity will stand out and you can relay that information to the police by calling 911. The more you know about your neighborhood, the more you can do to keep it safe

Mrs. Ness wanted to participate in National Night Out to connect with some of the communities she serves. Most of the sites she visited had current Elm Creek students, but she was also was able to connect with community members who used to attend Elm Creek and some who have little kids who will one day be attending Elm Creek. She says she had a blast! Her only regret is that she wasn't also able to visit some of the Osseo and Brooklyn Park neighborhoods with students that attend Elm Creek.
