Elm Creek Elementary serves approximately 520 students and their families through a variety of programs serving both the regular and Special Education student populations. We are proud of our active parent volunteer program that supports student, classroom, and building needs in a variety of ways. Grade level parties and Partners in Art are just a few of the special programs that parents lead.
Students have music and/or physical education learning opportunities every other day. We believe it’s important to educate the “whole child.” Music programs give students performance opportunities.
Students serve in a variety of volunteer positions throughout the school year including, Safety Patrol, Student Council, Wellness Team, and Recycling Team. Students have opportunities to participate in Continental Math League, Read Naturally, Word Masters, D.A.R.E., Flyer’s Club (extended day programs for math and reading support), and a variety of Community Education enrichment courses offered throughout the year. Two computer labs, computers in the classrooms and iPads for our fifth graders offer our students learning opportunities in technology.
Included in our special education support programs are Speech and Language, Full Service Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Adaptive Physical Education, Music Therapy, a Cooperative-Kindergarten (Kindergarten support) program, and three Skills (Developmentally Cognitively Delayed) programs. Elm Creek also has a Preschool Program serving the 4-year old population in District 279. Elm Creek has additional staffing to meet the needs of students and support the variety of programs offered. Included are a Gifted Education Teacher, Psychologist, Behavior Intervention Teacher, Social Worker, Counselor, Library Media Specialist, Information Technology Support Professional, Physical Education Instructors, Instrumental and Vocal Music Specialists, English Language Teacher, Educational Support Professionals and Volunteer Coordinator. Elm Creek also houses a Kidstop program to care for students before and after the regular school hours.
An active PTO supports a variety of fun, family events throughout the school year including: School Carnival, School Dance, BINGO nights, Holiday Gift Shop, Barnes and Noble Principal Night, Field Day, Fun Run, and Book Fair.
Elm Creek uses the Responsive Classroom approach to support students, enrich the learning climate, and build the skills of respect, responsibility, and resiliency. Responsive Classroom is based on sound principles of child development theory and on a commitment to teach the social skills of C.A.R.E.S. (Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-Control).
Morning Meetings in each classroom help to build classroom community and an acceptance of differences. Students wear nametags. Nametags provide safety and help to build school-wide community.
Elm Creek uses PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). PBIS is a school wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. Elm Creek Eagles SOAR! Strive to do their best, Own their actions, Act respectfully, and are Ready to learn.
The dedicated and caring Elm Creek staff aim to meet the needs of all students. Our mission is to inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning.
