kindness in chalkOctober is National Bullying Awareness Month, and a school in Maple Grove decided to do something special for it.

“Kindness in Chalk” is an anti-bullying movement started by a Minnesota native, but now a national event. On Sunday, families met at Cedar Island Elementary School and used chalk to write messages of love, peace, hope and acceptance in hopes of making others smile.

“They are writing no bullies, you are welcome to an anti-bullying school, be kind, you are special, they have a whole bunch of different messages out there,” Brandy Gerth of Cedar Island Elementary School said.

Last year, Kindness in Chalk reached students in 267 schools across the nation.
