ReadingCorps3

Hello all!

Do you know someone who would love to help our students improve their reading skills?

Basswood Elementary is now searching for Minnesota Reading Corps tutors for the 2018-19 school year! And I need your help spreading the word with your networks. We have the following positions open for next school year:  1 full time K focus tutor (9 hours a day), 1 full time plus K-3 Literacy Tutor (9 hours a day), 1 full time Literacy Tutor (7 hours) and 1 part time K-3 Literacy Tutor (5 hours a day)

Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents/grandparents, and retirees. They receive extensive training, and coaching support.  In return for their service, tutors earn a living allowance, education award, federal student loan forbearance, and other benefits.

This tutor is a specially-trained AmeriCorps member who will work with students needing a boost to catch up to grade level in reading. Students served by this evidence-based program experience strong growth – in their test scores, other school work, and confidence. Last year, Reading Corps served more than 20,000 Minnesota students in schools throughout the state - including Basswood Elementary!

If you or someone you know might enjoy making a difference in the lives of Basswood Elementary students, the application can be found here.  Positions are available throughout the 2018-19 school year.

WelcomeToBasswood

WELCOME TO BASSWOOD ELEMENTARY!!

We are pleased and excited to have you attending Basswood Elementary School this coming school year and look forward to working with you and your child/children.

We will be offering a New Family Orientation on Wednesday, August 15, at 9:00am in the Basswood Gym.

During orientation, we will give you many details for the upcoming school year (2018-19), provide an opportunity to ask questions, and take a self-guided tour of the school.

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4.  School hours are 8:50am – 3:20pm.

We are very proud of Basswood Elementary School and the families that are a part of this fine school.  It is important to us that you feel connected and proud to be a part of the Basswood School community.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 15, at 9:00am to attend this special orientation.  I look forward to meeting and spending some time with you!

Dream Big!

Osseo Area Schools launched Peachjar, a digital flyer management and distribution tool, on Monday, April 9.

This tool replaced the paper flyers elementary students receive in Wednesday Envelopes. Instead, flyers will be uploaded to Peachjar and emailed to parents/guardians of Osseo Area Schools students once a week. At the middle and high school level, Peachjar will be used instead of or in addition to the posting of school and/or community partner flyers in public areas. While we anticipate that Peachjar will replace the vast majority of flyers sent home, select materials—such as picture day order forms and event permission slips—may still be provided in paper format.

No action is required for parents/guardians who currently have an email address on file with their child's school. If you don’t have email, you can also access district, school and community organization flyers by clicking on the Peachjar button on each school’s website. With an easy-to-use interface and the ability to filter content by topic, Peachjar offers families a more convenient way to view flyers—all while saving staff time and reducing the amount of paper families receive.

While the majority of flyers students received in the past will now be made available electronically through Peachjar, select materials—such as picture day order forms and event permission slips—may still be provided in paper format.

With an easy-to-use interface and the ability to filter content by topic, Peachjar offers families a more convenient way to view flyers—and reduces the amount of paper families receive.

Parents/guardians who have an email address on file with their school will receive a welcome email from Peachjar the second week of April. Parents/guardians who wish to subscribe to Peachjar with an additional email address, or staff members and others who wish to receive school and community flyers, can sign up online.
